The Recommended Method is applicable to raw tobacco as well as tobacco taken from finished products. The method is applicable for nicotine contents ranging at least from a mass fraction of 8 mg/g to 41 mg/g by dry weight (2.2). The method is applicable to any type of tobacco sample whose particle size has been reduced to totally pass through a 4 mm screen. Cut filler from cigarettes need not be reduced further in size.
