In the darkness of the night

There was a knock on the window pane, and it was very dark outside.  I got up from my sleep startled, only to find my little brother, who had gone for a party, peeping through the gap in the window. He had exceeded his curfew time, and therefore was pleading with me through that gap, to let him in. This way, he would escape punishment from our parents.

I opened the window, and gave him a helping hand in getting in through the wide gaps between the window grills. He thanked me immensely the next day, as our parents had not heard any sound of him getting into the window, and thus escaped punishment.
