Radhika: "Tomorrow we are going to celebrate Teachers Day."

Rakhee: "Why do we celebrate 5th September as Teachers Day?"

Radhika: "It is celebrated to honour our teachers who contribute so much to society."

Rakhee: "How did this custom of honouring teachers start?"

Radhika: "Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a great scholar. He was the first vice president and second president of India. He was born on September 5, 1888. This day was observed as Teachers Day in his honour."

Rakhee: "Now I understand, that is why we pay tribute to our teachers and gurus on this day. In which year was the celebration of teachers day started?"

Radhika: "In 1962 when Dr Radhakrishnan became the President of India."

Ragini : Vibha, how is Teacher's Day celebrated in your school?

Vibha : We celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and make our teachers feel very special on this day.

Ragini :  Oh really! How?

Vibha : We, the students of the senior most class take the role of teachers and go to the classes according to their timetable.

Ragini : That sounds interesting, are you able to manage classes like them?

Vibha : To be frank, not really. But, we understand that way the difficulties teachers face in handling difficult students.

Ragini : That's good, they can at least improve their behavior then.
