Answers
Time :
The two boys, jacopo and nicola were young but still were ready to do any kind of work from shining shoes to selling newspapers and wild strawberries.this willingness to do any kind of work impressed or strangely attracted the narrator & the readers towards these two little gentlemen! They had great moral sense and can never be disheartened. The story seems to be based on the theme of human values and ethics. When the narrator guessed that the boys were saving to try their luck in the States. Nicola responded in a very excellent manner that shows that the boys were neither dependent nor wanted any help from anyone. They seemed unwilling to share their plans.both the boys were mature enough to face the difficulties of life. They were only 13 and 12 years yet they looked and behaved wonderfully. They were childish and innocent yet they were wise, responsible and mature. The responsibility they were holding were far beyond their ages. The boys were hlpd the author in a number of ways. There is no doubt that the boys loved their sister. She was the only family member left after the war was over. When they realized that their sister had tuberculosis of the spine, they got her admitted to a hospital. The boys wanted their sister to be all right . Day and night, they slogged and starved only to provide for medical expenses for their sister. This couldn’t have been done without their will power and desire. Their devotion and hard work would make everything possible. This shows the attitude of both the boys .
