the simplest way is to say it in english and see if you are stressing on the i/e sound. if you are then its a badi ee and if not then its a chotti e. for example, your name is Ajith ( A-ji-th) so it would have a chotti i as अजित. you dont pronounce your name as A-jee-th, in which case there would have been a badi ee. another example, if you take the word tamarind in hindi which is इमली.. you would sound it as im-lee and you would use a badi ee the second time and start with a chotti e. hope this has cleared the confusion a bit. let me know if there is still any clarifications to be done
