Difference between bedload and suspended load

Bed load consists of sediments that are moving along in a river bottom, or just above the bottom, essentially by either rolling or "saltation," where particles bounce along the bottom. These heavier particles are usually sands and gravels.

Suspended load consists of particles suspended in the water above the bottom. Suspended load consists of generally finer, smaller particles than bed load (like silt and clay).

Dissolved load is pretty obvious. Solids dissolved in the water move along with the water (like dissolved salts).

"Although both bed load and suspended load sound same, they are quite different from each other.

The bed load has sediments which are moving along in a river bottom. They are also found very close or just above the bottom and formed by either rolling or saltation.

Here, particles bounce along the bottom to form bed load.

On the contrary, the floating load is mainly composed of finer, smaller particles compare to bed load. They are suspended on the turbulence of the flowing water and it never settles at the bed."
