container tag contains both opening and closing tag both whereas, empty tag only contain opening tag but not contain closing tag.
EXAMPLE. container tag - HTML, BODY, HEAD ,etc.
empty tag - BR, HR, etc.

1 .Container tag : the tags which include an 'on' tag and the 'off tag, are called container tag.
example - html ,title, Body tags
2.In the empty tags there is no 'off tag, these tags have only 'on' tag.
example -Br, hr tags.
