E-Plane Tee: This is also known as series tee. It is connected in series with a branch or section of main waveguide transmission line. The side arm axis is parallel to the E field.
When the side arm receives the waves as input, the waves at the collinear arms will have the same magnitude and opposite phase as that of the side arm.
H-Plane Tee: This is also known as shunt tee. It is connected in shunt with a branch or section of main waveguide transmission line. The side arm axis is parallel to the H field.
When waves are fed as input to the collinear arms, the output at the third port will be the cumulative value of both the inputs. Similarly, if the input wave is fed to the third port, it gets split equally between the first two ports.
The E-plane and H-plane are planes of reference for linearly polarized antennas, waveguides and other microwave devices. A waveguide which has three independent ports in a microwave circuit is known as a TEE junction. The output of E-plane Tee is 180 degrees out of phase and the output of H-plane Tee is in phase.
E-plane
The E-plane is the plane which contains the electric field vector which is also known as the E aperture, and the direction of maximum radiation. The E-plane or electric field determines the orientation or polarization of the radio wave. For a vertically polarized antenna it coincides with the elevation or vertical plane. For a horizontally polarized antenna it coincides with the azimuth or horizontal plane. The E-plane and H-plane have to be 90 degrees apart.
H-plane
This plane contains the magnetic field vector or the H aperture and the direction of maximum radiation. Its magnetizing field lies at a right angle to the E-plane. For a vertically polarized antenna it coincides with the horizontal or azimuth plane. For a horizontally polarized antenna it coincides with the vertical or elevation plane.
