The difference is what caused the person's face to be red. A "blush" shows that a person is embarrassed or feeling shy. If a pretty girl smiles at a boy, he may blush. Blushing is considered charming and a sign of love or modesty.

Usually I'll smile at someone and they'll say I'm blushing or I'm shy....If I'm asked a question I really don't want to answer (to avoid being rude or disrespectful), I usually will respond with a smile. What's wrong with that? I don't think that's blushing or being shy. Is it?
