Oxygenation, as stated before, is adding gaseous oxygen (O2) to a system. Also can describe chemical reactions involving molecular oxygen.
On the other hand, oxidation does not necessarily involves the presence of oxygen. Oxidation (and reduction) are a type of chemical reaction called redox reaction. These reactions always involve an electron transfer between a pair of substances , one being oxidized (losing electrons), and the other being reduced (accepting electrons).
