Answer:

Soil erosion is defined as the process by which the upper fertile layer of the soil is removed .

Soil pollution is defined as the process by which harmful and toxic substances are included in the lithosphere thereby contaminating it.

Explanation:

  1. In soil erosion the upper layer of the soil, called the top soil is removed,
  • by natural components like, wind, river, glacier.
  • natural disasters like volcano, avalanche, earthquake, tsunami.
  • man-made reasons like deforestation, over-grazing, excessive irrigation.

   2. In soil pollution, the soil gets contaminated due to the incorporation of

toxic and harmful chemical and nuclear substances in it. This cause

the soil to loose its fertility and death of micro-organisms, plants and

animals  living in it. This is mainly caused by man-made reasons.

Difference between soil erosion and soil pollution

Explanation:

Soil erosion-

This is a natural process in which displacement of upper layer of soil takes place which is caused by any natural calamity like water, wind, ice or through animal, human or plants.

It is a slow process that occur in an alarming rate.

The topsoil contain rich mineral and it is fertile for agricultural land.Soil erosion causes displacement of the topmost layer of soil thus affects in agricultural land.

Some important methods to control soil erosion are-Crop rotation,Buffer strip, cover crop etc.

Soil pollution-

Soil pollution mainly takes place through continuous application of chemical toxins that is applied in agricultural land for better production which causes adverse effect in soil and thus soil become toxic in nature and creates hazard in animal body.

The main causative agents are inorganic minerals like calcium, phosphate, nitrogen, arsenic, lead, mercury, zinc and organic matters like lipid, protein that are produced by micro organism  which are burrowed in soil. Thus when the amount exceeds the normal level, causes serious soil pollution.

This is a rapid process and create dangerous diseases in the body of animals.

Some important methods to control soil pollution are-Proper management of agricultural land, proper solid waste management etc.
