Asexual reproduction is the formation of new individuals from the cell(s) of single parent . The offspring will be exact genetic copies of the parent except in specific cases of 'automixis'. It is very common in plants, less so in plants.
Asexual reproduction is of various types and vegetative propagation is one of its type. Types of asexual reproduction:
* fission
*budding
*sporulation
*fragmentation
*parthenogenesis
And vegetative propagation.

Vegetative propagation:
Through asexual reproduction, many plants
can produce genetically identical offshoots
(clones) of themselves, which then develop
into independent plants. This process is
called vegetative propagation, or vegetative
reproduction. One way in which vegetative
propagation occurs is through
fragmentation, a process in which a severed
plant part can grow into a whole new plant.
Other modes of vegetative propagation
include the production of specialized
structures such as tubers, runners, and
bulbs. The advantages to this kind of asexual
reproduction, which can occur either
naturally or artificially, stem from the fact
that it can occur more rapidly than seed
propagation and can allow a genetically
superior plant to produce unlimited copies
of itself without variation.

Difference between vegetative reproduction and asexual reproduction is as follows:

Explanation:

  • Asexual reproduction can take place through a single parent cell for example cell division in bacteria but the vegetative propagation can only occur in multicellular organisms like plants.
  • Asexual reproduction takes place in simple organisms whereas the vegetative reproduction takes place in complex organisms.
  • Asexual reproduction does not require specialized structures but vegetative reproduction requires specialized structures like leaves, roots and stems through which new plants originate.
