Warm currents flow away from the equatorial region on the western side of the ocean basins. On the other hand, cold currents flow towards the equator on the eastern side of ocean basins.
The gulf stream in the North Atlantic and Kuroshio current in the North Pacific are some examples of warm currents. Canary current in the North Atlantic and California current in North Pacific are examples of cold currents.
