The Government in India, the central / the union government is divided into three main sections namely the executive, legislature and the judiciary.

The legislature is a law making body.

State legislature consists of Governor , Legislative Assembly and Legislative council (only in states having bicameral legislature).

Like Union legislature, some of the states of India follow a bicameral system wherein the legislature is divided into two separate houses. A bicameral legislature comprises a lower house and an upper house .

The Vidhan Parishad (or Legislative Council) is the upper house in those states of India that have a bicameral legislature. As of 2014, seven (out of twenty-nine) states have a Legislative Council.

Legislative assembly is what is known as VIDHAN SABHA .

VIDHAN SABHA : The Vidhan Sabha is the assembly comprising the members elected directly by the people of the state through adult electoral suffrage. Through the elections to the legislative assembly, the state’s Chief Minister, his Council of Ministers and rest of the MLAs are elected. There is no uniform number of seats allocated to state assemblies; it differs from state to state. The number of seats for a particular assembly is fixed and decided by the Election Commission of India on the basis of the population of the respective states. These elected ones are called MLAs.

The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative authority in the country and it is bicameral.
LOKSABHA : House of People a.k.a Lower House

The members of the Lok Sabha are the representatives of people who are elected directly by the people on the basis of Universal Adult Suffrage.

530 members represent the States, while 20 members represent the Union Territories. The President of the country nominates two members from the Anglo-Indian community. The total elective membership is distributed among the States in such a way that the ratio between the number of seats allotted to each State and the population of the State is, so far as practicable, the same for all States.
