Winds blowing steadily from west to east in the upper levels of the troposphere, above and in a direction counter to the surface trade winds of the tropics. In the middle latitudes of the North and South Temperate Zones, the anti trades merge with the prevailing westerly surface wind are known as anti trade winds.

Whereas, trade winds are the winds blowing at sea from north east in the northern hemisphere or south-east in the southern hemisphere towards  the equator, and they are actually flowing from the tropical high pressure region to the low pressure region at the equator
