The following test can distinguish Benzaldehyde and benzoic acid.
Benzaldehyde undergoes tollens reagent test but benzoic acid doesn't undergo this test.

Benzaldehyde has no alpha hydrogen atom.Therefore, it undergoes Cannizaro’s reaction...
here's the reaction
2 C6H5CHO + KOH → C6H5CH2OH + C6H5COOK
Benzaldehyde benzyl alcohol potassium benzoate.
Whereas, benzoic acid doesnot undergo Cannizaro’s reaction.
Moreover benzaldehyde reacts with ammonia to give a complex called hydrobenzamide whereas benzoic acid gives benzamide.
