In general, "intelligent" is closer to "intellectual, mentally capable, logical", and "clever" is closer to "creative, ingenious, cunning". There is certainly an overlap in the synonyms. Clever is more quick witted. This means he can think on his feet.

Clever -

Someone who is clever can be introduced as a person who uses his intelligence effectively and practically in day to day content.

For Example - Ria's sister fell on the ground and got a cut. If Ria is clever she can find a way to stop the bleeding through the intelligence she has. Here she is applying intelligence in day to day life and thus this is known as cleverness.

Intelligent -

A person who is intelligent can learn new concepts effectively and fast since he/she is good at understanding things.

For Example - Rohan is learning a new lesson. If he is intelligent he will learn the lesson fast and understand the concepts well.
