Its is due to many reasons, but the most important ones are due to :-
Parent rock material - Central India and areas like Maharashtra has black soil the main reason is due to igneous rocks (which is the parents rock formed due to lava- Magma)Climate - the regions around western ghats especially in the region like kerala you can find laterite soil due to intense leeching of soil due to heavy rail fall.Topography and local relief- the region's around Tamil nadu Andhra and some central part of India you can find yellow/Red soil that is due to ferrous remains left in soil after the capillary action due to heating of landSimilar questions
