In DC the electric charge (current) only flows in one direction. Electric charge in AC, on the other hand, changes direction periodically. The voltage in AC circuits also periodically reverses because the current changes direction.

Source of AC current is generally available at home which is supplied by distribution company. DC can get through batteries, DC generators and Solar PV Modules.
