Absorption vs. Adsorption. Absorptionis the process in which a fluid is dissolved by a liquid or a solid (absorbent). Adsorption is the process in which atoms, ions or molecules from a substance (it could be gas, liquid or dissolved solid) adhere to a surface of the adsorbent.

Adsorption is the process of accumulation of particles on the surface of adsorbent rather than in bulk. It is a surface phenomenon. For ex. Water vapours adsorbed by silica gel. While absortion is the process of uniformly distribution of particles on an object. It is not only surface phenomenon but it is a body phenomenon. For ex. Water vapour absorbed by anhydrous calcium chloride.
