☣ Differentiation ☣
➡ BRYOPHYTA
▶Plant body is gamwtophytic.
▶Plant body is either thallose and/or folloise. However, real stem and leaves are always absent.
▶Fixation of plant body is carried out by rhizoids.
▶Sporophyte is parasitic over the gamwtophytic plant body throughout its life.
▶Bryophytes are non-vascular in nature.
➡ PTERIDOPHYTA
▶Plant body is sporophytic.
▶Real stem and leaves are present.
▶Fixation of plant body is carried out by roots.
▶The gametophyte is small and independent.
▶Pteridopytes are vascular plants.

Bryophyta - Bryophyta (Gk. bryon = moss + phylon = plant) are the first and simplest land plants.
Examples -
Mosses - Funaria, Sphagnum
Liveworts - Riccia, Marchantia
Pteridophyta - Pteridophyta (Gk. pteris = fern + phylon = plant) are the first truly terrestrial, vascular cryptogams.
Examples -
Ferns - Azalla,Dryopteris
Club Mosses - Selaginella, Lycopodium
Differences between Bryophyta and Pteridophyta are given below --
BRYOPHYTA -
1. Plant body is not differentiated into true roots, stem and leaves.
2. Nonvascular plants (vascular tissue is not developed)
3. Fixation is by rhzoids.
4. Gametophyte main plant; Sporophyte occurs as parasite on gametophyte.
PTERIDOPHYTA --
1. Plant body is differentiated into true roots, stem and leaves.
2. Vascular plants (vascular tissue, i.e., xylem and phloem well-developed)
3. Fixation is by roots.
4. Gametophyte is small and main plant is Sporophyte

Liveworts - Riccia, Marchantia
Pteridophyta - Pteridophyta (Gk. pteris = fern + phylon = plant) are the first truly terrestrial, vascular cryptogams.
