converging lens has positive focal length where as diverging lens has negative focal length according to the sign convention .
example of converging lens is convex lens and example for diverging lens is concave lens .

Difference between converging and diverging lenses:

Explanation:

  • Converging lenses are lenses which converge the light rays coming in the direction of them, while diverging lenses are lenses which diverge the rays coming in the direction of them.
  • A converging lens can shape a real image or a virtual image of a real object.
  • A diverging lens usually forms virtual images of real objects.
  • Converging lenses are lenses which converge the mild rays coming in the direction of them, while diverging lenses are lenses which diverge the rays coming in the direction of them.
  • The converging lenses have positive focal length.
  • A converging lens causes exiting rays to be greater convergent coming out than they had been coming into the lens.
  • The diverging lenses have negative focal length.
  • A diverging lens reasons exiting rays to be more divergent coming out than they had been entering the lens.
  • A converging lens can form a real image or a virtual image of a real object. A diverging lens always forms virtual images of real objects.
