In diffusion, particles move from an area of higher concentration to one of lower concentration until equilibrium is reached. In osmosis, a semipermeable membrane is present, so only the solvent molecules are free to move to equalize concentration.

Answer:

Diffusion:

Diffusion is the movement of particles from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration & doesn't require a semipermeable membrane. It occurs in liquids, gases & even in solids. Does not require water for movement. Depends on the presence of other particles. This can neither be stopped nor reversed. Occurs between similar & non- similar type of solution. It helps in uptake of minerals & nutrients. The flow of particles is possible in all the directions.

WHERE AS

Osmosis:

Osmosis is the movement of particles from a region of high concentration to a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration through a semipermeable membrane. It is limited oly to liquid medium. Requires water for movement. Depends on the number of solute particles dissolved in the solvent. This can either be stopped or reversed by applying additional force on the solution side. Occurs only between similar types of solutions. Not associated with uptake of minerals & nutrients. The flow of particles occurs only in one direction.
