The difference between External and Internal fertilisation is as follows :

1. External fertilisation :

The fertilisation which occurs Outside the female's body is called external fertilisation. In amphibians (like frogs and toads) and fishes, external fertilisation takes place. During spring and rainy season, frogs and toads moves to ponds or slow flowing streams. The famale lays hundreds of delicate eggs. The layer of jelly holds the eggs. As the eggs are laid, the male releases a large number of sperms. Each sperm swims randomly in water with the help of it's long tail. The sperm come in contact with the eggs and this results in fertilisation.

2. Internal fertilisation :

The fertilisation which occurs inside the female's body is called Internal fertilisation. In Internal fertilisation, the eggs are ferlilized by sperms inside the female's body to form Zygote. In the process the male animal releases it's sperms into the female's body. These sperms move to the egg and fertilise it. This type of fertilisation is happen in the animals like mammel' s (including human being), birds reptiles and insects.

Some More Knowledge :

  • The production of new individual by their parents is known as reproduction.
  • There are two modes of reproduction.
  • Sexual reproduction : The production of new animal by the existing two parents, by the fusion of their gametes is called sexual reproduction.
  • Asexual reproduction : The production new animal by a single parent without the involments of gametes is called Asexual reproduction.
  • The fusion of a male gamete (sperm) with a female gamete (ovum) during sexual reproduction is called fertilisation.
