Oxidation is Loss.It mainly takes place at the anode because anode loses electrons to the anion. When a reaction takes place the ions which lose electrons in the reaction is Oxidation.
Reduction is gain.It mainly takes place at the cathode because cathode gain electrons from the cation. When a reaction takes place the ions which gain electrons in the reaction is Reduction
