If the sides of the lens have the different focal length 1 and focal length 2 it would look different if seen from a side. It will look symmetrical if it has equal focal length 1 and focal length 2.

IF focal length 1 is somehow greater than focal length 2 the image will appear from a far away distance from the centre.
