Ala-ud-Din attempted to translate his theory of Kingship that the king was the representative of God on earth and that he was there to rule, through the administrative practices.

His word was law. He was an absolute despot. He possessed unlimited powers. He was the head i.e. Commander in Chief of the army, head of the executive, head of the judiciary and the sole authority in enforcing religious matters.

ala - ud -din khalji was an able commander and an excellent administrator. He increased the size of the army to protect his empire. He followed the policy of expansion and consolidation. He also made some sweeping required for heating control over the nobles. These measures included :-

  • land revenue for all the land was refixed In the doab the text on the fertile land between the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, the the tax was raised to one half of the total produced. the revenue records were up to date
  • market officers were appointed to keep a check on the prices.
  • excess of money from the nobles was extracted by heavy taxes
  • The prices of all articles were fixed and the prices of essential goods were kept very low.
  • the land and property which was given to the nobles as iqtas,as gifts or religious endowment was taken back by the government.
  • an efficient spying system was organised
  • marriage parties and social gathering of the labels were restricted.
  • drinking of wine in public was prohibited
