Carbon and hydrogen are detected by heating the organic compound with cupric oxide (CuO) strongly, wherecarbon is oxidized to carbon dioxide and hydrogen to water. Carbon dioxide is tested by lime water test, whereas water is tested by anhydrous copper sulphate test.
