The elections directly or indirectly impact the weaker sections of the the society in India. Though during the past few years India has shown remarkable progress, the leap in population refrains the weaker society from the advantages that come our way. Moreover, it has been observed the grown of population is more among them which can be attributed to lack of education, awareness and poverty.
Every election costs millions and millions which has a direct bearing on their life. Inflation and increase in taxes make it difficult for them to meet their basic needs. Not only scheduled polls, rather unprecedented mid-term polls make the situation worse. Frequent election result in delay in decision making as far as weaker society is concerned.
Due to their ignorance they fall a prey to the candidates who exploit them for getting votes and, unable to foresee the result of it, they select the candidate who may not be deserving. As a result, the vicious circle goes on and they can never come out of their plight.
If we have to make our democracy, the largest democracy in the world, successful, first we need to empower this group of society, for till people are weak, till people are hungry, till people are dominated and exploited for political interest, can't see our democracy as an efficient system that ensures and protects the rights of every individual

The weaker sections of Indian society, as elsewhere in countries with a low literacy rate and high poverty, are exploited by the political parties. They are pressurised and induced to caste their votes one way or another, sometimes even prevented from casting their votes either due to electoral malpractices or by being prevented from reaching the polling booths.
The most tragic thing is that it is not explained to the weaker sections of society of the immense power they have in their hands, by virtue of their right to vote, and that this they should sensibly utilise to elect a government who they feel will improve their lot in the days to come.
