1. They introduce scientific forestry.
2. According to Indian Forest Act , 1878, they divided forest into three categories : reserved, protected, and village forest.
3. Villagers could not take anything from these forests even for their own use .
4. For house building or fuel, they could take wood from protected or village forests.
