The differences between the manganese dioxide and copper oxide are listed below:

1) When adding the concentrated hydrochloric acid to the black powder and the heat :

  • The manganese dioxide produces chlorine with greenish yellow gas.
  • The copper oxide does not form any chlorine

2) Filtration:

  • The filtrate from \mathrm{MnO}_{2} is brownish in color.
  • In CuO, the filtrate is bluish in colour.

3) When adding the Ammonium hydroxide to the above respective filtrate

  • No precipitation has been formed
  • Here, the pale blue precipitation has been formed.
