Given

1/5 * x = 1/7 * (36-x)
7x = 5(36-x)
7x = 180 - 5x
12x = 180
x = 15

36 - x
= 36 - 15
= 21

15 + 21 = 36

1/5 *15  = 3
1/7 * 21 =  3

hence the two parts are 15 and 21
