Mononucleotide cannot work independently because a single cell can't work as a hereditary material ,it needs enzymes to work as a hereditary material which are not same in all cells. The cell which works as a hereditary material must have all types of enzymes which helps in development and grow.

Answer:

mononucleotides do not work independently as genetic material because they are not associated withRNA or DNA and they are found singly in the cell or as a part of other molecules.
