The Quit India speech is a speech made by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942, on the eve of the" Quit India movement". He called for determined, but passive resistance that signified the certitude that Gandhi foresaw for the movement, best described by his call to Do or Die.

Do or Die slogan was given by Gandhi during the Quit India Movement which began in August 1942. It was the time where the Second World War held and very serious situation for England. Gandhi thought it was a nice time to compel the British to quit India. He wanted the Indians to realize that freedom is our ultimate goal. He wanted every man and woman to see themselves as a free person. The motto of Quit India Movement implied that either we die to achieve freedom or achieve freedom.
