Given, Mass of earth M = 6 * 10^24 kg
Given, Mass of satellite, m = 200 kg
Given, Radius Re = 6.4 * 10^6 m
W.K.T gravitational constant, G = 6.67 * 10^-11
Given, Height of the satellite, h = 400 km = 0.4 * 10^6
Total energy of the satellite at height h = 1/2 mv^2 + (-GMem/Re + h) ---- (1)
Orbital velocity of the satellite v = root GMe/Re+h ----- (2)
Substitute (2) in (1), we get
h = 1/2 m (GMe/Re+h) - GMe/Re+h
= -1/2(GMe/Re+h)
Energy required to expand the satellite = 1/2(GMe/Re+h)
= 1/2 * 6.67 * 10^-11 * 6 * 10^24*200/(6.4 * 10^6 + 0.4 * 10^6)
= 5.9 * 10^9 J.
Hope this helps!
