The bishop was right in selling the salt cellars. As an ideal priest,he could not bear the thought of an old,ailing lady to be thrown out of her house because she couldn't pay her rent. He sold the salt cellars to give money to this woman so that she could pay her rent. This act of kindness was expected from a priest like him.

No, I don't think the Bishop was right in selling the alt cellars.Helping everyone is a good thing to do . But for this there is no need to sell his belongings to help everyone.If he sells all his belongings , the Bishop and his sister Persome will have to seek the help of others for their living.
