Ketone is a functional group with a Carbon atom double-bonded with Oxygen atom. This functional group is usually placed in middle of 2 Alkane radicles. If we take the first member of Ketone family,it is noticed to be having 3 Carbon atoms and 6 Hydrogen atoms, named as Propanone. We also know that Alkanes having 1 Carbon atom are called Methane and 2 Carbon atoms are called Ethane.Hence,It is not possible to form a Ketone compound with 1 or 2 carbon atoms,as Ketone already have a carbon atom, and we need 2 radicles on either side of this functional group, which will only lead to its first member, being Propanone.
