I deny with your statement. The primary purpose of the museum is to preserve selected objects and preferably antiques from old ancient times which Howeever, are really precious and need careful preservation. The curators (persons in charge of protection and caregiving of the museums) know that no specimens will last forever. What museums undertake to do is to prolong the life time of the objects. Preservation in a museum consist state of two important steps.
1) specimens must be put into a condition that checks the deterioration of that material.
2) the specimens, as specified earlier, need to be protected under constant surveillance.
That's it, and no need for photographs (if they are antiques or some highly precious material then photographs might have a consideration).
