Given : A circle of radius  3.4 cm  & Chord MN = 5.7 cm

To find : Draw tangents at points M and N

Solution:

Step 1 : take a  point O

Step 2 :  Using compass width = 3.4 cm and taking O as center draw a circle

Step 3 : take a point M on Circumference

Step 4 : using compass width = 5.7 cm and takingM as center draw an arc intersecting circle at N

Step 5 : join  MN   (MN is  required chord)

case 1 : Draw right angle at OM and ON using protractor to draw tangent intersceting at X  .  MX & NX are required tangent

Case 2 : not using center

Step 6 :  Taking a point R on arc ( major arc)  on Center side on circumference

Step 7 : join MR  & NR

Step 8 : draw angle = ∠MRN   at  M on MN  & N on MN

Step 9 : These angle will intersect at X

MX  & NX are required tangent
