Stomata is present in the epidermis of a leaf. Stomata are the tiny pores present through which gaseous exchange takes place. Through stomata gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen are exchanged. The stomata is surrounded by two  kidney shaped cells called guard cells which encloses the stomata. The opening and closing of the stomata is determined by the guard cells. When water enters the guard cells then it becomes turgid and the stomata opens and when the water leaves the guard cells then it becomes flaccid and the stomata closes. The guard cells contain the chloroplast which contains the chlorophyll pigments. The chlorophyll pigment captures the light energy necessary for photosynthesis which is used for synthesis of food by plants.
