Given : a triangle with sides 4 cm, 6 cm, 8 cm . another triangle  3 times the corresponding sides of the first triangle

To find : Construct Triangle

Solution:

Step 1 :  Draw a line segment AB = 4 cm

Step 2 : taking compass width= 6 cm and taking A as center draw an arc

Step 3 : taking compass width = 8 cm and taking B as center draw an arc such that it intersect arc drawn in step  2 at C

Step 4 : Join AC  & BC

Required Triangle is Constructed

Another triangle with 3 times the corresponding sides

Similar to above but sides will be 12 , 18 & 24 cm

Geometric way to get 3 times the given line

Let say line segment = PQ  & we need to Draw 3 times PQ

Step 1 : Extend  PQ

Step 2 : Draw an acute angle at P on PQ

Step 3 : using Suitable compass width , mark 3 points one by one at angle drawn in step 2

Step 4 : join 1st point with Q

Step 5 : draw  a line parallel to line drawn in step 4 ,m passing through 3rd point in step 3 such that it intersect extended PQ at R

PR = 3 PQ
