REDUCTION OF COPPER OXIDE :

  • Copper oxide is reduced using a reducing agent namely Methane (CH4).

  • First of all, copper oxide is taken into a special test tube.

  • The test tube is heated with a Bunsen burner. The test tube is supplied with methane with a pipe.

  • Now, the excess methane is removed from the apical part of the test tube through a small hole.

  • In this reaction, Copper (II) oxide is reduced to form Copper , Water and Carbon dioxide.

Chemical Equation:

\boxed{\bf CH_{4}+4CuO\longrightarrow 4Cu+2H_{2}O+CO_{2}}
