When objects fall to the ground, gravity causes them to accelerate. Acceleration is a change in velocity, and velocity, in turn, is a measure of the speed and direction of motion. Gravity causes an object to fall toward the ground at a faster and faster velocity the longer the object falls.

The force acting during free fall motion is equal to the force of gravitation between the falling body and the Earth. Therefore we can put this in the form of an equation, F = GMm(R+h)² [where M = mass of the Earth, and G = the universal gravitation constant.
