During the post-war period, the USSR was able to control Poland and Hungary by  setting up puppet governments there and keeping Soviet troops stationed there.

This idea of setting up puppet governments as well as keeping Soviet troops stationed there made it easy for the  Union of Soviet Socialist Republics popularly known as the Soviet Union control Poland and Hungary.
