Faulty spring balance reads 0.9 kg for a kg" means that she sells 1 kg for the price of 0.9 kgs, so she looses 10% of the price because of the faulty spring balance. She looses another 10% because of the discount.
So, she actually sells 1 kg for $3×0.9×0.9=$2.43 and since at that price she made neither a profit nor a loss, then Eesha purchase the wheat from the wholesaler for $2.43.

or

1 kg of Wheat=3
0.9 kg of wheat=3*0.9=2.7

Now she gives 10% discount per kg(Here 1kg is 0.9)
So,10/100*2.7=0.27
Finally,SP-Discount=CP
CP=2.7-0.27=$2.47

The wheat was purchased at a price of $2.43.

Given:

Price of wheat in the store = $3

Reading by the faulty spring balance = 0.9kg

Discount on wheat = 10%

To Find:

At what price did Eesha purchase the wheat from the wholesaler?

Solution:

The faulty spring balance reads 0.9 pounds for a Kg.

This means that Eesha sells 1 Kg for the price of 0.9 Kg.

Thus, she loses 10% of the price because of the faulty spring balance. Further, she loses another 10% because of the discount.

Therefore,

Eesha actually sells 1 Kg for -

= 3 × 0.9 × 0.9

= 3 × 0.81

= 2.43

Answer: Eesha purchases the wheat from the wholesaler for $2.43.
