Bonjour..

The atom is Nitrogen

Its valency is 4

There are two types of ions: 1)cations-positive

2)anions-negative

So it can either be anion or cation as it can either donate or share.....

Hope this helps.....

Thanks...

shiksha191551: can you please explain what is electronic configuration?
TanuM514: There are no. of shells around any atom......Electrons of these atoms are arranged in these shells in a fixed composition........This fixed conmposition is known as electronic configuration
TanuM514: Sorry that's comosition
TanuM514: Again wrong composition

Answer : Anion

Explanation :

Atomic number of X = 7.

Mass number of the element = 14.

By this, We know that the atom is Nitrogen which falls in the 15th group ( VA group).

Consider, We are unknown with the name of the element .

Then, We shall write the electronic configuration of the Element X.

 \sf \: 1 {s}^{2} 2 {s}^{2} 2 {p}^{3}

We get the electronic configuration as above.

Since, there are five electrons in the valence shell,

To get stability, Either the atom should lose 5 electrons or gain 3 of them.

Since, It's is easy to gain 3 electrons, X forms an Anion \sf \: ( X^{3 - })

HappiestWriter012: electronic configuration is the arrangement of electrons. it's gives us a idea of how the elections are composed in the atom
