Endocrine glands release hormones into the bloodstream. This lets the hormones travel to cells in other parts of the body. The endocrinehormones help control mood, growth anddevelopment, the way our organs work, metabolism , and reproduction. The endocrine system regulates how much of each hormone is released.

If growth hormone is secreted at a very large amount it can cause gigantism, gigantism is a rare condition of accelerated growth and increased height as a result of too much growth hormone secreation during childhood or adolescence. It is almost always the result of a growth hormone secreating pituitary tumour.
