✒when an electron is added to Oxygen atom to form O- ion , energy is released . But when another electron is add to O- ion to form O2- ion , it feels stronger electrostatic repulsion.

✒ hence, when we add 2nd electron , then energy absorb by it. that's why the 2nd electron gain enthalpy of oxygen is positive.

O- has an extra electron compared to the number of protons in the nucleus. There will be repulsion between electrons. A second electron cannot be added to oxygen because there will be repulsion between the new electron and the electrons already present.
So, to avoid repulsion, energy is absorbed when a second electron is added to oxygen.
