Given : parabola whose vertex is (2, 5)  and focus (2, 2)

To find : Equation of parabola

Solution:

equation of a parabola

(x - h)² = 4p(y - k)  where

(h,k) are the coordinates of the vertex.

focus ( h , k + p)

h = 2

k = 5

k + p  = 2  => p = - 3

(x - 2)²  = 4(-3)(y - 5)

=> (x - 2)²  = -12y + 60

x²  - 4x  + 4 = - 12y + 60

=> x²  - 4x  + 12y  - 56 =  0

(x - 2)²  = -12y + 60     or   x²  - 4x  + 12y  - 56 =  0
