Condition of law in India

The condition of law in India is pathetic. Our wise and learned leaders made highly efficient laws, which if followed properly can make India one of the most advanced nations. However, the bitter truth is a majority of Indians don’t follow and abide by laws, rules, and regulations.

People can be seen jumping the traffic lights; violating speed limits; finding ways to dodge taxes; not abide by environmental laws, etc. For example, according to article 48 A of the Indian Constitution, the Government and the people must protect wildlife and trees, but neither Government nor people care much to follow the law. The same state prevails in almost all areas.

What makes the situation worse is people's indifference to their responsibility in maintaining law and order! Everyone in India thinks it is not his duty to be a law abiding and responsible citizen. Majority of the Indians think, it is not their duty to follow law; it is the Government’s job.

For example with regard to protecting environment, most of the people and Government officials think cutting a few more trees won't affect the environmental balance; almost all of the government officials think it is not their duty to implement protective measures.

Imagine the amount of damage that is being done by this passing the buck onto others! Laws in India are meant to be violated and broken! We are damaging our own interests. By not respecting laws we are actually cutting the same branch we are sitting on! Already we are going behind schedule. If this apathy is not replaced by concern and willing honouring of the laws, days are not far, when we will bear the brunt of our own misdeeds.
